Midnight Writings (A Poem)

By Joyce Jacobo

[Author’s Note: These are some thoughts on writing in the dark.]

What happens
to the words on a page
when the writer who creates them
cannot see where they appear?

To just write
and see the words
in the mind
rather than watch
them flow out
into existence?

Do they get lost
upon the blank expanse
that late at night?

Or maybe
they simply hang around
in the space between
Light
and
Dark?

“Midnight Writings”
I might call
what appears here

I never saw them born
When I penned each line
While blinded by shadows

Who reads who
At this midnight hour?
