Literary Structures (A Poem)

By Joyce Jacobo

[Author’s Note: I just love the thought of books being like structures we, as readers, get invited to explore.]

A simple pen touched to a blank canvas page

can lay the foundation for a new chapter

            in many textual livesβ€”

                       born from words to breathe

                             upon each reading

Stories flow like thoughts

      uninterrupted

                                 separate from the actual process

               of actual starts

                                              and stops

Leading guest readers deep

       along pathways crafted

                 especially for them

Amid a universe bound

         together by a single spine

Impressions formed

as gifts for generations to come

               with characters and unique experiences

                    for visitors to wander about

                        as through structures

                            refurbished through reprintings

                                    or perhaps simply retellings
