Journal Entry #29–Some Good News and Chaotic News

First, to start with some good news, 101 Words has published my short story, “Two Perspectives!” It has been a huge honor, and their website has a whole archive of flash fictions that are fun to read and check out.

Additionally, my violin playing has been coming along bit by bit. I’ve managed to play a few simple songs, such as “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star,” “Row, Row, Row, Your Boat,” and “You are my Sunshine,” although I’m still a bit too self-conscious to play them with much of an audience.

Now for the chaotic news… during the past two days, there has been a massive wildfire raging down in the valley, which was possibly the result of some circuit issues (the exact cause hasn’t been verified yet). It is getting dangerously close to the area where my family lives, but we’re hopeful that a tropical storm due to sweep through Southern California might help firefighters to combat the blaze. We’re keeping our fingers crossed that everything comes out all right.

    1. Thank you so much, Sadje. We did get evacuated early yesterday morning, but the tropical storm that blew in off the coast made all the difference. Now we’re back home, and have a newfound appreciation for the comfort it brings.

    1. Thank you so much. Thanks to Tropical Storm Kay, it jumped from being five percent contained to 40 percent contained. My area got evacuated early yesterday morning, but we were able to come home in the evening. So that was a relief.

  1. Loved your story! Congrats!

I’m trying to learn how to play the ukelele. Let’s just say my right and left hands have trouble working together, so it sounds like you’re much further along than I am. Looking forward to hearing what other songs you learn!

I used to live in So. Cal. and know what the not knowing is like with fires. Stay safe!

    1. Aww, thank you so much. Stringed instruments, I’ve heard, are among the toughest to learn, and I clearly still have a long way to go on the violin. Good luck with the ukelele. It can produce such sweet melodies. You’ll be doing great in no time. ^_^

We had a bit of a scare early yesterday morning when police officers told us to evacuate our area. Thankfully, Tropical Story Kay helped to turn the tide, and now we’re home, safe and sound. Whew!

    1. Thank you so much. It was quite a scare. Thankfully, though, the arrival of Tropical Storm Kay helped matters, and we were able to go home yesterday evening. Whew!

I look forward to playing my violin without any worries today.
