An Important Attitude (A Poem)

[Author’s Note: Based on a lecture given by my creative writing professor a few years ago, in which he said exactly the same thing. He was and still is a wise guy (in the best possible way).]

My professor once told me

   of a friend he can had

      who composed music

        rhythmic and whimsical

“A critic once scoffed at him”

     my professor said

       “and said what he did

           was so simple

              anyone could do it”

After a slight pause for effect

   my professor tapped

    the side of his nose and added

“My friend replied

   ‘Maybe anyone could do it

       But the difference is

          . . . I actually did it.’”
